SIGNATURES TO BE PHASED OUT

Why Use a PIN?

For security:  Whilst signatures can be forged, a PIN combination can be between 4 and 12 digits, meaning there are up to one billion possible combinations - making it a more secure form of identification.

The use of a PIN is also faster and more convenient.

ENTERING THE CLOUD

Currently the banking software that CDFs across Australia utilise (Ultracs) is located with the Melbourne CDF IT Bureau.  In the case of Canberra the bureau is accessed via a dedicated pipe - this pipe will now be used to access the servers ('cloud') housing Word etc., located at the Archdiocese of Melbourne IT Bureau.  The advantage for the CDF is cost savings with respect to the purchase and maintenance of servers; the purchase of desktops; back-up and disaster recovery; and access to IT expertise.

It is anticipated that the same option will be made available to parishes and other archdiocesan entities - with similar benefits - in due course.

Staffing

Karin first joined the CDF as a part-time employee in April 2000.  Karin's role changed and increased over the years through the advent of children as she became a integral part of the CDF operation.  Karin will be missed by colleagues and clients a like.  We wish Karin all the best in her new and exciting role with the public service.
